Like all race car drivers, Smith made his start somewhere. Smith’s came as a surprise, as his parents surprised him at the beginning of 2006 with his Bandolero car. The surprise formed Smith’s current race team, Milan Racing. His first race ever was on March 13th, 2006 where he was scored in 4th at the drop of the checkered flag. He raced on both the road course and oval tracks in Las Vegas throughout the season, scoring a few top 5’s.
He continued racing his Bandolero throughout the 2007 and 2008 seasons, picking up seven victories, including his first ever on June the 1st, 2007. He was voted Las Vegas Motor Speedways “Most Popular Driver” in 2007 by the fans. Jacksen also took the 2008 Bandolero Young Guns Silver State Road Course Championship and the 2008 Nevada State Championship on top of finishing 5th overall in the nation.
In 2009, Smith started the season in Bandolero Cars, but quickly transitioned to the bigger, more powerful Thunder Cars. Jovon Halen, 2006 Thunder Car champion, signed with Milan Racing as Jacksen’s crew chief. He had success in the Thunder Car division early as well, under supervision of his new crew chief, recording a top 5 his first race out of the box. He recorded three more top 5’s during the 2009 season.
The 2010 season started out in grand fashion for Milan Racing’s Jacksen Smith. The Smith/ Halen combination picked up the 2010 Bandolero Outlaw and Thunder Car Silver State Road Course Championships. This made Smith the only driver to win two road course championships in the same season, as well as the youngest to ever pick up the Thunder Car title. As the oval season got start, Smith started off perfectly with a 1/4 mile and Bullring victory in his first 2 races. He then went on for 13 more Bullring victories, before the team was shrouded with a crew chief change mid-season. New CC Chris Bosley, led Smith to 2 more victories, as well as sealing away the 2010 Thunder Car Bullring Championship, Nevada State Oval and Road Course Championship, and 3rd in the nations point standings.
Smith now focuses on school and furthering his racing career. After being voted Southeast Tech's Automotive Technology Student of the Year, and qualifying for Ford/AAA Nevada state automotive competition, his future is looking bright. What's to come? Your along for the ride to see.
